A cannabis high can last from 2 to 10 hours, depending on several factors such as the amount consumed, how it’s used, the THC content, your body weight, metabolism, whether you’ve eaten, and your tolerance. The main chemical in cannabis that causes a high is delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), one of over 113 compounds known as cannabinoids. How Quickly Do You Feel the Effects?

The time it takes to feel the effects of cannabis depends on how you consume it:

  • Smoking or Vaping: You can feel the effects in 2 to 10 minutes. This method works quickly because THC enters your bloodstream through your lungs.
  • Eating: Edibles take longer to kick in, usually between 30 to 60 minutes, but sometimes up to 2 hours, as the body has to digest them.
  • Dabbing: This involves using a concentrated form of cannabis. The effects are almost instant because it has a high THC content.

How Long Do the Effects Last?

The duration of the effects can vary significantly based on the dosage and potency:

  • Smoking or Vaping: Effects peak around 10 minutes after consumption, lasting 1 to 3 hours, but can linger for up to 8 hours.
  • Eating: The effects peak around 2 hours after consumption and can last up to 24 hours.
  • Dabbing: Similar to smoking, the effects last 1 to 3 hours but can last an entire day if using a high-THC concentrate.

Cannabis affects everyone differently, so while some may feel high for just a few hours, others might experience aftereffects that last longer. It’s advisable to start with small amounts if you are new to cannabis.

How Can You End a High Faster?

If you want to shorten your high, here are some tips:

  • Take a Nap: Sleeping can help reduce anxiety and gives your body time to process cannabis, making you feel better when you wake up.
  • Try Black Pepper: Sniffing or chewing on black peppercorns may help calm your high due to a compound called caryophyllene.
  • Eat Pine Nuts: Pine nuts contain pinene, which can have a calming effect and improve clarity.
  • Try CBD: Cannabidiol (CBD) may counteract THC effects. Unlike THC, CBD has a calming effect.
  • Use Lemon Peel: Lemon peel contains compounds that may help reduce THC’s psychoactive effects. You can steep lemon peel in hot water and sip it.

How to Extend Your High?

If you want a longer high, edibles are the way to go. Although they take longer to kick in, the effects last longer, which can be beneficial for medical use. You could also take another dose or choose a higher THC strain, but this can result in stronger effects.

Some suggest eating mango or drinking alcohol to extend the high, but these methods lack scientific support. In fact, combining cannabis and alcohol can lead to unpleasant side effects, such as nausea and increased impairment, and may raise the risk of dependence.
